Beach Bugs
The three future musicians of Beach Bugs first came across each other in other projects in Limoges, Johnny Gin, The Sapphics and Heavy Hookers, but as chance would have it, one summer evening, a banal discussion about the relevance of pop melodies sung by punk bands like the Briefs, the Undertones or the Ramones led Thibaud (bass) and Lucas (guitar) to discover their first common ground, as well as both knowing Benoit (drums). There's a real appetite for wild music, but the band's first compositions end up leaning towards the nonchalant, laid-back ambiences of 60s surf crossed with the post-2010 garage revival (Jacuzzi Boys, Black Lips...). Guitar gimmicks and vocal harmonies echo Doo-wop.
In July 2020, they pushed back the furniture in a living room to record their first LP, with the aim of offering a rawer, closer-to-live sound. The formula doesn't change, but the band relies more on 70's punk patterns to build their tracks and highlight the candid melodies of the choruses, often sung in unison. The result is a collection of short, ingenuously charming power-pop songs about love, guilt and an uncertain future. Themes on which they cast a disenchanted, acerbic and often nostalgic eye. A ballad, a few 60s Doo Wop ritornellos and a postcard track sung in French complete the portrait of a spontaneous record released on October 2022.
